All lanes on State Highway 1 between Mt Wellington and Highbrook Drive are now being REOPENED.

This will occur in stages, with all northbound lanes now open, and southbound lanes opened in phases from Mt Wellington.

Congestion will most likely remain in place until late evening. NZTA thanks drivers for their patience as delays begin to ease.

2:55pm:

State Highway 1 is now closed in both directions between Mt Wellington and Highbrook Drive. 

Northbound lanes are expected to re-open shortly however the southbound lanes will continue to remain closed into the afternoon peak.

People are advised to plan ahead or expect delays.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising motorists that SH1 is closed (southbound) between Mt Wellington and Highbrook Drive due to a Police operation. 

People are advised to expect delays. A detour is available via the Mt Wellington offramp, through Great South Road and rejoining at Highbrook Drive.
