UPDATE: SH1 reopened after serious crash

State Highway 1 near Allanton in Otago has reopened after a serious crash last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash about 1.30pm yesterday. After the completion of police investigations at the site, the section of SH1 between Riccarton Road East and State Highway 86 opened again about 11.20pm last night.

A serious vehicle crash has resulted in the closure of State Highway 1 near Dunedin.

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash, close to Allanton, that occurred about 1.30pm. The road closure is in place between Riccarton Road East and State Highway 86.Motorists should expect delays and should avoid the area if possible. 

The detour for southbound light vehicles is right onto Riccarton Road East and continue onto Riccarton Road West, left onto State Highway 87, left onto Hoylake Street and continue onto Bell Street, and then onto Allanton Road, turn left onto State Highway 86 and back onto State Highway 1. Southbound heavy vehicles should take the exit onto State Highway 87 to Mosgiel and continue onto Outram, turn left onto Hoylake Street, continue onto Bell Street and then continue onto Allanton Road, turn left onto State Highway 86 and back onto State Highway 1. Reverse for northbound traffic.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours, and an update will be provided when the situations changes.
