UPDATE: 11.30am – SH1 reopened after fire

State Highway 1 just north of Oamaru has reopened following a vehicle fire.

Road users are advised the section of SH1 between the Redcastle Road and Orbell Road intersections is subject to temporary speed restrictions, and to travel with care. 

10.45am – Fire closes SH1 in North Otago

State Highway 1 just north of Oamaru is closed because of smoke from a vehicle fire.

Emergency services are at the scene of the fire, near the near the T Y Duncan Road intersection on SH1. The highway is closed between the Redcastle Road and Orbell Road intersections.

Road users are asked to avoid the area, delay their journeys, or to follow directions of emergency services at the site.
