SH11 Paihia road rebuild extended by two nights
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 22 Oct 2026 12:47pm | Northland
Road rebuilding on State Highway 11 (SH11) in Paihia will continue for two additional nights next week.
SH11 through Paihia will remain open over the Labour Day long weekend, with a temporary speed limit of 30km/h through the worksite. There will be no stop/go or overnight closure on Sunday night.
Work will resume on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October. Road users should expect delays with stop/go traffic management in place 8pm to 11pm, followed by a full road closure from 11pm to 6am.
The road rebuild was originally scheduled to be complete tomorrow Friday 23 October; however, the extra shifts are needed following unexpected ground conditions and the discovery of midden material during construction. Additional care has been required to appropriately manage the archaeological material.
During the overnight closures, the existing overnight detour via State Highway 1 (SH1) Kawakawa, State Highway 10 (SH10) Pakaraka and SH11 Haruru (reverse for southbound traffic) will remain in place and can add up to 50 minutes to journeys.
Work is expected to be completed by 6am on Wednesday 28 October, subject to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
NZTA thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while we complete this work.
