SH12/SH15 Kaikohe township – asphalt resurfacing
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 18 Feb 2026 11:51am | Northland
Night-time resurfacing starts next week on sections of State Highway 12 (SH12) and State Highway 15 (SH15) in Kaikohe. The work involves removing the existing road surface and paving a new asphalt surface.
Work will take around 7 nights to complete, between 8pm to 5am, across 3 sites:
- Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 February:
Stop/go traffic management and a reduced speed limit between Quarry Road and SH15 Mangakahia Road.
- Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 February + Sunday 1 and Monday 2 March:
A full road closure on SH12 Broadway between SH15 Mangakahia Road and Rankin Street.
Westbound traffic will be detoured via SH15 Mangakahia Road, Recreation Road and Rankin Street, rejoining SH12 Broadway (Eastbound same detour in reverse). The detour is suitable for all vehicle types.
- Tuesday 3 March:
Stop/go traffic management and a reduced speed limit at the SH15 Mangakahia Road / Recreation Road intersection.
Short delays are expected, allow extra time.
Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.
There will be no parking along this section of SH12 (the main street of Kaikohe) between Monday 23 February and Tuesday 3 March (excluding Friday and Saturday nights), from 8pm to 5am.
Please treat our crews with kindness and respect. Reduce your speed, adhere to the temporary speed limits and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.
We do our best to stick to planned dates for state highway maintenance work, but weather, unforeseen circumstances, or other factors may cause changes. Before heading out, check the NZTA Journey Planner for the latest updates.
