19 July 9:05am

SH2 at Waiotahe has one lane OPEN under stop/go as slip clearance continues. A 30km/h speed limit is in place.

This updates the bulletin below.

18 July 4:33pm

State Highway 2 (SH2) is fully closed between Waiotahi Valley Back Road and Paerata Ridge Road at Waiotahi due to slip that has fallen this afternoon and is covering both lanes.

Contractors are en route to begin clearing the road. The slip has been caused by saturated ground following heavy rain over the last few weeks.

The detour for southbound traffic is SH2, Waiotahi Valley Back Rd, Verrall Rd, Old Cemetery Rd, Paerata Ridge Rd, SH2. Northbound in reverse.

People should expect delays and follow signposted information.

Road users should be aware that SH2 is already compromised in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, with the highway also down to one lane through the Waimana Gorge due to an underslip.
