SH2 in Central HB remains closed following offal spill
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 27 Aug 2025 8:33am | Hawke’s Bay
State Highway 2 between Otane and Waipawa remains closed this morning following yesterday evening’s offal spill.
A stretch of road was closed around 5pm while emergency services attended the spill and crews cleaned up the road.
A detour remains in place. Southbound traffic is being detoured left onto Higginson Road, onto Elsthorpe Road, then right onto Racecourse Road before rejoining SH2. The reverse applies for northbound traffic.
The detour is not suitable for HPMV.
The incident saw offal spilled onto the road, making for a slippery and dangerous surface.
The clean up continues this morning.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi wishes to thank motorists for adhering to the traffic management in place.
Please continue to drive to the conditions while on the detour.
