SH2 near Te Puke Golf Course closed this weekend for rail level crossing repairs
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 9 Sept 2026 1:44pm | Bay of Plenty
People travelling on State Highway 2 (SH2) near Paengaroa this weekend are encouraged to plan ahead, with SH2 closed at the rail level crossing by the Te Puke Golf Course from 5am Saturday 12 September until 6am Monday 14 September.
KiwiRail crews will be working around the clock to complete to upgrade. The work will improve safety and provide a smoother, more reliable crossing for road and rail users.
All through traffic must follow the signposted detour via Maniatutu Road and Old Coach Road (and reverse) before returning to SH2. Please allow extra time for your journey and take care on local roads.
Access for residents, businesses, emergency services and essential vehicles will be maintained on either side of the closure where possible. Some short delays may happen while crews are working.
For safety reasons, vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians will not be able to travel through the level crossing area during the closure.
NZTA thanks motorists for their patience as this important work is completed.
