SH2 Pekatahi Bridge 1 day closure for maintenance
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 14 May 2025 12:04pm | Bay of Plenty
A 1-day closure of Pekatahi Bridge is scheduled to take place next Monday 19 May, between 8.30am and 4.30pm, enabling essential deck repairs to take place.
Pekatahi Bridge, located north of Tāneatua on State Highway 2 (SH2), will close for the day so contractors can safely repair and replace decking planks, address broken and protruding screws and undertake chipseal surface patching (weather dependent).
Tueday 20 May is the contingency day should the weather be unsuitable on Monday.
SH2 is a key connection for the Bay of Plenty and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) understands any closure is disruptive, but due to the narrow width of the bridge and nature of the work, a daytime full road closure is required.
A detour will be in place for all traffic; northbound using Tāneatua Road, Arawa Road, Hinemoa Street and onto State Highway 30 (SH30) towards Awakeri and southbound traffic will use the same route in reverse. This detour is expected to add up to 20 minutes to journey times and is suitable for all vehicles, including High Productivity Motor Vehicles (HPMV).
NZTA thanks road users for their co-operation.
