Work has recently been completed on the southbound section of State Highway 2 (SH2) Takitimu Drive and attention is now shifting to the northbound side of the state highway for resurfacing.
From Monday 16 March, crews will be working over 4 nights, between 8pm and 5am, to resurface SH2 between Eleventh Avenue on-ramp and the Elizabeth Street roundabout.
The work involves removing the existing asphalt road surface and reconstructing with a new one, noise and vibration can be associated with this type of work. Line marking is reinstated once the surface has been replaced.
What to expect:
Shift 1 - Monday 16 March
Work will require the closure of the Waihī Road on-ramp to SH2, as well as the Koromiko Street/Waihī Road on-ramp. Detours will be in place via Eleventh Avenue, Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street, returning traffic to SH2.
Shift 2 – Tuesday 17 March
Crews will work on both northbound lanes between the Elizabeth Street roundabout and the Eleventh Avenue off-ramp, there will be lane switches, but no closures are required.
Shift 3 and 4 – Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 March
The final 2 nights of work will involve closing the northbound exit ramp to the Elizabeth Street roundabout. With this ramp unavailable, traffic will continue along SH2 to the Chapel Street off-ramp before heading back up toward Cameron Road.
