UPDATE: SH2 now open between Wairoa and Whirinaki following earlier crash

State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Whirinaki is now open after a serious crash earlier this morning closed the road for much of the day.
Emergency services have been onsite all day and the police Serious Crash Unit investigation has now been completed.
The road has now been cleared and reopened.
Please drive to the conditions and expect delays as traffic congestion eases.
Crews will be working to manage the traffic backlog at various locations along this stretch of SH2.

Serious crash closes SH2 between Wairoa and Whirinaki
State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Whirinaki will remain closed until late afternoon, at this stage.
A serious crash earlier this morning at Tangoio has closed the road between Wairoa and Whirinaki, just north of Napier.
There is no suitable detour.
Emergency services remain on site and the police Serious Crash Unit investigation continues.

SH5 Napier-Taupō Road is currently experiencing heavier than usual traffic volumes and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is strongly advising road users to plan ahead and expect delays.

SH2 Tangoio closed between Wairoa to Eskdale due to serious crash
State Highway 2 is closed between Wairoa to Eskdale, due to a serious crash near the intersection of Tangoio Settlement Road.
Road users are advised to delay their journey as there is no suitable detour.
The closure is likely to remain in place for a number of hours while emergency services respond and the Serious Crash Unit investigates.
