SH2 to reopen near Ōpōtiki

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising drivers that State Highway 2 is scheduled to re-open between Opotiki and Ohope at 9am this morning.
Crews have now begun clearing flood debris and culverts to ensure the road can be safely reopened.
When travelling through, people are urged to slow down, increase following distances and drive to the conditions. Please adhere to any temporary speed limits on the network and drive with care.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising drivers that the closure of State Highway 2 has now been extended, from between Taneatua and Paerata Ridge Road, Opotiki (east of Waiotahe Cliffs), due to flooding across SH2 and Wainui Road near Kutarere, and SH2 adjoining the Waiotahe River.
With several local road closures in the area, Whakatāne District Council has advised that there is currently no route available between Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki.
Significant disruption and delays are expected, and people are urged to avoid all non-essential travel in the area. Closures are expected to remain in place until the morning.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising drivers that State Highway 2 (SH2) is closed at the intersection of SH2 and Wainui Road (Matekerepu), near Kutarere, due to flooding.
With several local road closures in the area, Whakatāne District Council has advised that there is currently no route available between Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki.
Significant disruption and delays are expected, and people are urged to avoid all non-essential travel in the area.
People who must drive in the area are urged to slow down, increase following distances and drive to the conditions.
Watch for surface flooding, slips, and debris and avoid driving through floodwaters.
