SH2 Waioweka Gorge changes to traffic management
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 20 Mar 2026 10:06am | Bay of Plenty
Crews have made progress at the Goldsmith slip site with the spider digger completing work at the top of the gully, allowing night works to begin from Monday 23 March.
This will enable increased productivity while keeping the road open during daytime hours.
This is a strong step forward in providing less restrictive access through the gorge. It will significantly increase productivity and allow the road to remain open during the day under stop/go traffic management, without the need for convoy movements.
From Monday 23 March:
- Hourly convoys will be removed
- The road will be open daily from 6am to 8pm
- Traffic will operate under stop/go traffic management
- Spotters will continue to monitor the slip area
- Motorists should expect delays of up to 1 hour
Please note: There is still loose material on the slope, and the road may close again at short notice if conditions change.
Drivers are thanked for their patience and are encouraged to plan ahead and follow all onsite instructions.
