UPDATE, 8:40am:

The road has been cleared and is now OPEN.

With a heavy rain warning in place until Saturday, drivers are encouraged to check for updates before travelling, allow extra time for their journeys and be prepared to use alternative routes if required.

8.24am:

SH2 Waioweka Gorge is currently blocked at the Goldsmith slip site by a broken-down digger. 

We expect the section of road to reopen by 9am. Our crews are working to clear the site and get people moving again.

Another update will be provided when the road has reopened.
