People travelling through State Highway 2 (SH2) Waioweka Gorge are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time, with short periods of full closure required while crews carry out rock scaling at the Manganuku slip site.

Crews will be at the slip site tomorrow (Thursday 10 September) to inspect the slip face, undertake rock scaling and make it safer for crews working on the road. The work is expected to take one to two days, depending on site conditions.

This will require short periods of stop/stop traffic management, for up to 10 minutes at a time. Outside of these periods, stop/go traffic management will remain in place and the road will continue to operate under one lane until final geotechnical clearance is received.

Once work at Manganuku is complete, crews will move to the Monument slip site to remove material from the base of the slip and install barriers. Stop/stop traffic management will also be required between 7:30am to approximately 5pm, with delays of up to 10 minutes.

The road is expected to return to two lanes at this site once the work is complete. This work is weather dependent.
