SH32 Overnight closures for overhead lines work

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 4 Mar 2026 10:10am | Waikato

Until late April, Transpower is upgrading overhead lines in the area between State Highway 41 (SH41) and the Whangamata Road intersection with State Highway 32 (SH32). This work is essential to maintain the reliability of electricity supply for the region and across Aotearoa New Zealand.

From Monday, 9 March, SH32 will be closed for four nights between Whangamata Road and the SH41 intersection. The highway will closed at 10pm each night and reopen at 4am the following morning to allow crews to safely haul new power lines across the highway. The road must be fully closed during this time to ensure the safety of both workers and road users. The work will be completed and the highway fully re-opened by 4am Friday 13 March.

Residents will have access at all times.

For northbound travel, State Highway 1 remains available as an alternative route.
