SH35 and SH2 north of Gisborne remain closed as crews assess damages

State Highway 2 between Matawai and Whatatutu and State Highway 35 between Okitu and Pōtaka will remain closed for now as crews continue to assess the roads after heavy rainfall overnight. 

Tolaga Bay and further north remains under a red heavy rain warning until 9am today; south of Tolaga Bay, Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay remain under an orange warning until 10am.

SH2 between Matawai and Ōpōtiki remains closed.

SH2 south of Gisborne remains open. If you can, delay your travel. If you do have to travel, please take care, drive to the conditions and be alert to possible slips or debris on other parts of the state highway network.
