State Highway 39 (SH39) between Ōtorohanga and Pirongia will be reduced to one lane from today while urgent repairs are carried out to strengthen the road following an underslip.
The work is expected to take up to four weeks and is needed to protect the stability of the northbound lane and keep the route safe for road users.
Traffic will be managed under Stop/Go traffic control while repairs are underway.
Drivers are asked to take extra care through the area, particularly as the site is less than a kilometre south of the temporary Mangati Bridge, which is also operating under one lane.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi thanks road users for their patience while this important work is completed.
