A raft of road maintenance, drainage improvements and underslip repairs are taking place on State Highway 43 Forgotten World Highway.
Stop/go traffic management is now in place between Stratford and Whangamōmona as contractors carry out drainage maintenance.
Work is taking place between 7am and 6pm with crews expected to be finished next Saturday (30 May).
Please plan ahead for delays of up to 30 minutes during work hours. A temporary speed limit will be in place while this work is undertaken and will remain in place outside of work hours. Please follow all traffic management direction onsite.
In addition to the drainage maintenance works, other repairs will be starting from Monday between Whangamōmona and Tāngarākau Gorge.
Crews will be working in the area from next week through til the end of July, repairing slips under the road, which were damaged in the storm events of late last year.
The repairs will be completed under 24/7 stop/go traffic management, with delays of up to 30 minutes expected between Whangamōmona and Tāngarākau Gorge.
Work on this section of road will be carried out Monday to Saturday between 7am and 6pm.
SH43 is an iconic back country drive and a lot of tourists take this route. We understand these delays could be disruptive and we’re grateful for community support while we carry out this work.
