SH45 Devon Street to be resurfaced

A mixture of overnight closures and daytime stop/go will be used as crews rebuild a stretch of State Highway 45 Devon Street in New Plymouth.

The work, between Mt Edgecumbe Street and Belt Road, will begin on Saturday 28 March and last for approximately 6 nights and 3 days.

Crews will carry out the work in two stages – initially replacing cycle lane separators on behalf of New Plymouth District Council and then turning their focus to rebuilding a section of the road with asphalt and resurfacing a second section of the road with MicroPave.  MicroPave is a type of surface treatment that is designed to extend the life of roads by providing skid resistance and creating a barrier against moisture.

Stage One:

Will take place as night closures between Mt Edgecumbe Street and Belt Road from 28 March to 2 April.

The road will be rebuilt between Belt and Cutfield Roads. The road will be closed each night between 7pm and 6am from Mt Edgecumbe Street and Morley Street and from Morley Street and Belt Road.

Outside of working hours (6am-7pm) the road will be open; however, a temporary speed limit will remain in place until the work is complete.

Access will remain open for pedestrians and residents.

Stage Two:

Will take place as day works between Cutfield Road and Mt Edgecumbe Street from 3 to 5 April.

SH45 will be resurfaced with MicroPave between Cutfield Road and Mt Edgecumbe Street from 7am to 7pm each day.

The site will be run under contraflow (two-way) traffic controls with minimal delays.

Outside of working hours (7pm-7am) all roads will remain open; however, a temporary speed limit will remain in place until the work is complete.

In the case of unsuitable weather, this project will be rescheduled to take place 7-17 April.

There will be some additional traffic management in place for a few days following this work as new cycle separators are installed.
