A reminder that from Sunday a stretch of State Highway 57 will be closing at night while work progresses on the new SH57 / Tararua Road roundabout.
Night works ahead for SH57 / Tararua Road(external link)
Crews will be onsite from Sunday 8 June to Thursday 26 June, between 7pm and 6am Sunday to Thursday. This work is weather dependent and if needed, contingency dates will see work continue until 4 July.
During construction, the new roundabout at the Tararua Road intersection will feature a realigned layout for all 3 legs of the intersection.
SH57 will close at night between Meadowvale Road and Kimberley Road and detours will be in place.
Southbound vehicles will be detoured right onto Queen Street East and onto State Highway 1 (local road Cambridge Street is also available). The reverse will apply for northbound road users. Tararua Road East traffic will be detoured via Tararua Road East, Gladstone Road and Queen Street East. Please see the attached map for details.
The western access to Tararua Road will remain closed as it is currently during the night works but will be open during the day. The eastern access to Tararua Road will also be closed and remain closed 24/7 until later in the year to allow for the fourth and final leg of the roundabout to be constructed.
Residents within the road closure will have managed access to their properties at all times. Emergency services will also have access.
This stretch of SH57 will be open during the day, and under a temporary lower speed limit.
We appreciate this night work will be disruptive and at times noisy, however our crews will do all they can to minimise that disruption.
Construction of the roundabout began mid January and is progressing well. The roundabout is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
