SH6 has now re-opened under Stop/Go traffic control. Expect some ongoing delays.
Update – 2:45pm
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising road users to delay their journeys or expect significant delays following the closure of SH6 north of Murchison this afternoon.
Due to a crash on the highway north of Murchison, between Owen River and Longford, the road is now closed following a crash which has brought powerlines down across the highway.
Drivers needing to travel from Nelson towards Murchison will need to travel via SH6 to Blenheim, SH1 to Waipara, SH7 to Springs Junction, SH65 to O’Sullivan’s Junction, and SH6 to Murchison.
This is a significant detour. Those who do not need to travel are advised to delay their journeys until the road is re-opened.
NZTA will provide a further update at 5pm.
