UPDATE: 12.45pm – SH77 clear again after fire

State Highway 77/Wairiri Road, between Glentunnel and Windwhistle in central Canterbury, is fully clear again following a nearby vegetation fire that required traffic management on the road.

Road users are asked to continue travelling on this route with care.


11.48am:

A vegetation fire is partially blocking a stretch of State Highway 77/Wairiri Road in central Canterbury this morning.   

Stop/go traffic management, where road users are asked to stop on demand, is in place at the site of the fire near the intersection with Davies Road, between Glentunnel and Windwhistle. Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) is dealing with the fire.

People are asked to take care and to expect delays travelling through this area.

The traffic management is expected to last a couple of hours and an update will be provided as the situation changes.
