NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 4 Jul 2025 3:12pm | Otago
A section of State Highway 8 in Central Otago remains closed this afternoon after a serious crash this morning.
Emergency services have been working at the crash site while the highway is closed between Roxburgh and Millers Flat.
Those planning to travel through the area, including those driving to Dunedin for tomorrow’s rugby test match, are urged to avoid the area, delay travel or use the detours available.
Southbound traffic can turn left onto Jedburgh Street, then right onto Teviot Road, then right onto Millers Flat Bridge Road, then onto SH8. Northbound traffic can reverse out of the affected area. These detours are suitable for all vehicle types.
The highway will remain closed while police completes its crash investigations. It is expected the road will reopen later this afternoon or this evening.
An update will be issued when the highway reopens.
