State Highway 8/Tekapo-Twizel Road near Lake Pukaki has reopened following a closure due to a crash earlier this morning.

People are urged to take care travelling in the area while icy conditions persist.

9.20am – Crash closes SH8 in Mackenzie District:

State Highway 8/Tekapo-Twizel Road is closed near Lake Pukaki, in South Canterbury, after a crash in icy conditions this morning.

The crash occurred between Rhoboro Road and Pukaki Canal Road. There is also a general warning about ice across wider SH8 this morning.

People are asked to avoid the area or delay their travel while the closure is in place, which may only last about an hour for the road to be cleared. 

An update will be provided when the status of the road changes.
