8pm – SH8 reopened after crash

State Highway 8/Pleasant Point Highway has reopened after a crash late this afternoon.

Road users are asked to take care when travelling through the area.

6:50pm – SH8 in South Canterbury closed by crash

State Highway 8/Pleasant Point Highway in South Canterbury is closed tonight following a crash.

The highway is closed between Arowhenua Road and Levels Plain Road.  

A detour is available to northbound traffic by following State Highway 1, turning left onto Waitohi Temuka Road, then turning left onto Waitohi Pleasant Point Road, following onto Halstead Road, and back onto SH8. The reverse applies for southbound traffic.

Road users are encouraged to allow extra time for travel through the area.

An update is expected later this evening.
