Silverstream Bridge closure – State Highway 2, Upper Hutt

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 3 Jul 2025 11:49am | Wellington

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising drivers and residents to plan ahead for a one-night closure of the SH2 Silverstream Bridge scheduled for next week.

The bridge is scheduled for closure from 9pm on Wednesday 9 July to 4am Thursday 10 July, weather permitting.

The closure is needed to allow NZTA contractors to undertake pavement repairs on the bridge. Upper Hutt City Council will also use this closure to complete associated council works.

People wanting to access Fergusson Drive and Upper Hutt from State Highway 2 will need to take the signposted detour. Traffic travelling through the Hutt Valley on State Highway 2 will be able to travel as normal.

Vehicles travelling northbound on State Highway 2 who want to access Silverstream will need to continue north toward Whakatiki Street and then travel Fergusson Drive heading south.

Vehicles travelling southbound on State Highway 2 who want to access Silverstream will need to continue south toward Fairway Drive, then take Harcourt Werry Drive, Taita Drive, High Street, and Eastern Hutt Road heading north.
