State Highway 1 Johnsonville off-ramp - one night closure this Wednesday
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 3 Feb 2026 12:25pm | Wellington
Nighttime users of the SH1 northbound Johnsonville off-ramp need to be ready for a one-night closure of this Wednesday (4 February).
Contactors will be carrying out essential drainage and maintenance work. The curb and channel drainage will be cleared, and the footpath will be cleared of debris and moss/lichen.
Improved drainage helps prevent damage to the highway, and clearing the footpath will make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The off-ramp will be closed on Wednesday, 4 February, between 10 pm and 4:30 am. This work is being done at night while traffic volumes are lower to minimise disruption for drivers.
With the off-ramp closed, northbound drivers needing to access Johnsonville will need to continue north, exit at Churton Park to rejoin SH1 southbound, and exit at Johnsonville off-ramp. This will require extra travel time, so drivers should plan ahead.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank the public for their patience and cooperation while this drainage work is being completed.
