State Highway 1 Transmission Gully is now fully open to southbound and northbound traffic following this afternoon’s crash.
Drivers may experience some ongoing delays while queued traffic clears.

State Highway 1 Transmission Gully partially closed following serious crash (Northbound - one lane open. Southbound lanes now CLOSED)
Drivers heading into Wellington are asked to avoid using State Highway 1 Transmission Gully following a serious crash on the route this afternoon.
The motorway now has a single northbound lane open. However, its southbound lanes are now closed while the Police Serious Crash Unit carries out an investigation into this afternoon’s incident.
The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours while the investigation is underway. Updates will be provided when the motorway’s status changes.
The crash is causing traffic delays and drivers heading in to Wellington should avoid Transmission Gully and use State Highway 59 as an alternative route.
They should also check the motorway’s status before they travel.

State Highway 1 Transmission Gully partially closed following serious crash
Drivers heading north out of Wellington city are asked to avoid State Highway 1 Transmission Gully following a crash on the route this afternoon.
The motorway’s northbound lanes are currently closed from the Waitangirua interchange.
The motorway remains open to southbound traffic. However, a lane closure is in place and drivers should use caution when travelling through the area.
The crash, involving a motorcycle, was reported at around 3:30 this afternoon. Emergency services are at the scene.
Drivers heading north out of Wellington should use State Highway 59 as an alternative route.
