Transmission Gully closures

Updated schedules are now available for ongoing resurfacing works on State Highway 1 Transmission Gully, including night closures over Waitangi weekend.

There will be a southbound closure in place on Thursday night between Paekākāriki and the SH58 interchange between 9 pm and 4:30 am. Northbound will be remain open to allow for holiday traffic travelling north, with lane closures in some locations.

People should expect both north and southbound closures nightly until Tuesday 10 February, with detours via SH59. See the schedule below.

Night closures are required over the Waitangi Holiday weekend to ensure works can be completed as soon as possible. Closure times have been adjusted on Sunday night to accommodate expected higher holiday traffic volumes.

Daytime lane closures and temporary speed limits also remain in place. These will cause traffic delays, especially during peak commuting periods

Drivers are urged to stay up to date on the works, plan their journeys accordingly, and to use State Highway 59 as an alternative route where possible.

Works are weather-dependent and schedules may change if wet weather occurs.

Waitangirua ramp closures

Due to pavement reconstruction works, the Waitangirua southbound offramp is closed day and night until Thursday, 12 February (see map below).

The closures will apply 24/7 and drivers will need to use alternative routes to access Waitangirua and Porirua.

Later this month, the Waitangirua northbound onramp will close 24/7 for up to five days, weather permitting.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi understands the ongoing works are affecting traffic, but the works are critical and every effort is being made to finish them quickly.
