State Highway 1 Transmission Gully/Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata closures cancelled this weekend
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 4 Dec 2025 2:28pm | Wellington
NZTA/Waka Kotahi is advising road users that the scheduled closure for this weekend on Transmission Gully will not proceed. However, lane closures will still be in place this weekend.
This will help mitigate delays and disruption for people travelling to the Kāpiti Food Fair this Saturday (6 December), as the event is expected to attract over 10,000 people from the wider Wellington region.
Current work
Drivers must be ready for ongoing lane closures that will remain in place on Transmission Gully for both north and southbound lanes.
This weekend and next week, pavement reconstruction works will be happening in the southbound lanes, north of State Highway 58. For safety reasons, a northbound lane closure is required for this work.
Drainage works in the northbound lane at this same location will be continuing this weekend, and into next week.
Upcoming work and travel advice
Further updates will be provided about upcoming works and closures once details are confirmed.
Travel delays can be expected in the morning and afternoon peaks. People should allow for extra travel time, particularly on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Drivers should also consider using State Highway 59 as an alternative route.
Road users are encouraged to keep up to date on the highway’s status and to check road conditions before they travel. Updates can be found on the NZTA/Waka Kotahi website and our social media channels.
