State Highway 2 Kennedy Good Bridge night works planned this Sunday

One of the Hutt Valley’s busiest State Highway intersections will undergo maintenance work this coming Sunday night.

Road crews will repair and patch the highway at the Kennedy Good Bridge intersection on Sunday night (28 June) between 9 pm and 4:30 am. Traffic management setup is from 7 pm, and delays can be expected while this is underway.

This section of State Highway 2 carries around 37,000 vehicles daily so it is important the road surface is well maintained.

The highway will remain open to both south and northbound traffic while the repairs are underway.

However, the work will affect traffic turning right from the highway onto Kennedy Good Bridge/Fairway Drive, and for traffic turning right onto State Highway 2 from Kennedy Good Bridge/Fairway Drive.

Because the section of State Highway 2 being repaired affects these right-hand turns, drivers will have to detour (see map below).

Northbound traffic will need to continue to the State Highway 58 interchange, turn around, travel south, then turn left from State Highway 2 into Kennedy Good Bridge/Fairway Drive. Alternatively, drivers can use other routes to travel to and from Lower Hutt.

Drivers wanting to travel north on State Highway 2 should either use another route to access the highway, or turn left onto State Highway 2, travel south, and turn at the Dowse Interchange to rejoin the highway’s northbound lanes.

These detours are longer and will add time to journeys. Drivers should plan ahead.

A temporary 30 km/h speed limit will be in place at the work site. Drivers are asked to follow this lower speed limit and any instructions from road crews. They are there to keep everyone safe.

Work schedule and detour route

  • Sunday, 28 June, 9 pm – 4:30 am (traffic management set up from 7 pm):
    • No right turn from SH2 to Kennedy Good Bridge/Fairway Drive.
    • No right turn from Kennedy Good Bridge/Fairway Drive onto SH2.
    • SH2 remains OPEN to north and southbound traffic.
    • A 30 km/h temporary speed limit applies at the work site.
