Drivers heading north on State Highway 2 on Sunday night (7 June) can expect traffic management and short delays near the Kennedy Good Bridge intersection.

Road crews will be resurfacing the highway’s northbound lanes between Kennedy Good Bridge and Owen Street (Belmont Domain) between 9pm and 4:30am. Traffic management will be set up from 7pm and travel delays can be expected while this is underway. 

Northbound traffic will be diverted into one of the highway’s southbound lanes between Kennedy Good Bridge and Owen Street. This means southbound traffic will also be reduced to one lane. 

A 30 km/h temporary speed limit will be in place for both north and southbound traffic, and drivers are urged to drive with care while these roadworks are underway.

The work will also affect access to Kennedy Good Bridge and Owen Streets. Northbound traffic will have to travel north, turn around at the State Highway 58 Haywards interchange, then travel south to make left turns into these exits. 

There will be no right turn access to State Highway 2 from Kennedy Good Bridge and Owen Streets. 

Drivers will instead have to take a left turn, travel south, then turn into Grounsell Crescent, before travelling north on Grounsell Crescent to rejoin State Highway 2 at its northern end (see map below).

This work is being done at night to minimise disruption for the public. However, road users can expect delays when travelling through the area and should allow extra time for their journeys.

Drivers are also asked to follow all traffic management and temporary speed limits in place. They are there to keep the public and road crews safe.

This is essential state highway maintenance and is critical for ensuring the route is reliable and resilient  for traffic. The resurfacing will also improve grip and skid resistance for vehicles, making this section of highway safer for all road users.

Sunday 7 June. 9pm – 4:30am. Traffic management will be set up from 7pm

• Contraflow traffic management in place for northbound traffic
• No right turn for northbound traffic from SH2 to Kennedy Good Bridge and Owen Streets
• No right turn into SH2 for traffic exiting Kennedy Good Bridge and Owen Streets
• Heavy vehicles should use Melling and Dowse interchange to access Lower Hutt.
