People are advised to drive with caution as State Highway 35 (SH35) near Cape Runaway, is down to a single lane. 

Excessive rain has caused the Whangaparaoa River levels to rise, leading to an underslip. 

Crews are currently onsite assessing the damage and putting necessary traffic management in place. 

Up to 200mm of further rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours, until 3pm on Thursday, 1 May. This could potentially shut the road if the underslip worsens. 

Once the rain subsides the site will be assessed, and repair options considered.
