State Highway 59 ramp resurfacing nightworks planned for next week
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 17 Jul 2026 1:30pm | Wellington
With on and offramp closures planned for State Highway 59 at Porirua next week, drivers and residents are asked to be ready for nighttime detours.
Road crews will be resurfacing both the northbound onramp and southbound offramp on State Highway 59 at the Parumoana Street access to and from Titahi Bay.
Nightworks are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights (22 and 23 July).
Because resurfacing work requires heavy equipment and space on the ramps is limited, the resurfacing work will affect traffic access.
While the work on the northbound onramp on Thursday night can be done with a lane closure, the resurfacing planned for the southbound offramp on Wednesday night will need a full closure.
Drivers will have to use alternative routes to get to and from Titahi Bay while the southbound offramp is closed. The recommended route is via Titahi Bay Road and the Mungavin Avenue interchange (see map below).
These on and offramps carry over 9,000 vehicles every day and are a key access route to and from Porirua. This means it is critical the road surface is properly maintained for road users.
The new road surface will improve skid resistance and create more grip for vehicles, making the ramps safer for drivers.
The work and associated detours will create short delays for drivers. Road users should allow extra time for their journeys.
Resurfacing work is also weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if wet weather occurs.
