18 October 2026 - 8.05pm
State Highway 65 is closed to traffic this evening following a truck and trailer rollover on the route. The incident was reported around 6:30 pm.
The highway is closed between O’Sullivan’s Bridge and Springs Junction. It means there is no direct access between Murchison and Springs Junction.
Detour route:
Southbound traffic - SH6 to Inangahua, SH69 to Reefton, SH7 to Springs Junction.
Northbound traffic – SH7 to Reefton, SH69 to Inangahua, SH6 to O’Sullivan’s Bridge.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use the recommended detour until this incident is resolved. This is a longer route and will require extra travel time.
Due to the location of the crash, the need for a heavy vehicle recovery unit, and the time it will take for the unit to travel to the crash site, the highway is expected to remain closed overnight.
Drivers are asked to respect the road closures and follow all instructions from emergency services and road crews.
Updates on the highway’s status can be found on the NZTA/Waka Kotahi website. Drivers should check road conditions before they travel.
