State Highway 3 through Kai Iwi is now open following an earlier crash.

A speed restriction is in place, so please expect delays and drive to the conditions.

9.30am:

A stretch of State Highway 3 through Kai Iwi, north of Whanganui remains closed following a serious crash this morning.

The road is closed between Kai Iwi Valley Road and Watt Livingstone Road and crash investigators are on the scene.

A detour is in place.

Northbound traffic is currently being detoured left onto Watt Livingstone Road, right onto Rapanui Road, onto Handley Road, right onto Kai Iwi Valley Road, and left to rejoin SH3. 

The reverse applied for southbound vehicles.

The road is closed until further notice – so please drive carefully and expect delays on the detour.
