An unexpected issue at the asphalt plant meant the final section new road could not be completed as planned. The area has been temporarily surfaced and is safe for traffic. A temporary 30km/h speed limit remains in place until crews return to complete the resurfacing.

13 October

Planned overnight asphalt resurfacing on State Highway 2 (SH2) at Bethlehem, which was due to begin on Monday 12 October, will now start on Sunday 18 October.

The work will take place between 8pm and 5am over 4 nights. The eastbound/city-bound lane of SH2 will be closed south of the SH2 Moffat Road roundabout while the work is underway.

During the closures, light vehicles will be detoured via Bethlehem Road, Carmichael Road, Millers Road and Ōtūmoetai Road, returning to SH2. Heavy vehicles will be detoured via Moffat Road, SH29 and SH29A.

Road users should allow extra time, follow the signposted detours and take care while travelling through the area.
