Top of the South weather response continues
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 22 Jul 2025 9:07am | Nelson and Marlborough
Drivers travelling on state highways in the top of the South Island are warned to expect travel delays as post-flood repairs continue at multiple sites across the region.
SH6 Spooners Hill
Contractors will be removing dangerous trees, at risk of falling onto State Highway 6 at Spooners Hill from tomorrow (Wednesday, 23 July).
They will be working weekdays, between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm over the next week. There will be no work on the weekend.
Because usual local road detours cannot be used because of weather damage, State Highway 6 will remain open to traffic but be subject to stop/stop traffic management to allow fallen trees to be removed safely.
Drivers can expect traffic queues and delays of up to 15 minutes on this route while this work is ongoing.
SH60 Motueka River Bridge
Debris will also be cleared from the Motueka River Bridge, as soon as water levels allow.
Work is expected to start today, when it is safe for diggers to operate in the riverbed.
Because this work will be done from the riverbed and channel, traffic will not be affected.
