A stretch of State Highway 51 near Awatoto is closed following a truck crash this morning.

The crash happened on the northbound lane however the southbound lane has also been closed while the truck is removed from the road and damaged flexible median barrier is repaired.

The road is currently closed just north of the SH51 / Awatoto Road roundabout.

A detour is in place for motorists through Te Awa Avenue, and right onto SH51/Ellison Street.

Please expect delays and take care driving on the detour.
