Two state highway closures in HB this weekend

State Highway 5

A reminder that a stretch of State Highway 5 Napier-Taupō Road at Tarawera will close overnight on Saturday for asphalting.

The road will be closed from 9pm on Saturday 28 March and is expected to reopen at 7am the following day (Sunday 29 March). 

No detour is available during this time.

For those travelling between Napier and Taupō, please allow sufficient time to get through the Tarawera section before the closure is put in place at 9pm.

During the work, the area just north of Tarawera will be asphalted. 

Access for residents and local businesses will be available to particular locations, while emergency services will be assisted through the site.

This work is weather dependent and may change at short notice. The contingency dates are Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April. 

State Highway 2 Hawke’s Bay Expressway

A stretch of Hawke’s Bay Expressway will be closed overnight on Sunday 29 March for routine maintenance.

The road will be closed between the Omahu Road and Evenden Road roundabouts from 8pm until 4am. It will reopen at 4am on Monday 30 March.

Detours will be in place. Light vehicles heading north will be detoured onto Omahu Road, Ormond Road and Evenden Road. The reverse will apply.

The HPMV detour is via Omahu Road, Stoneycroft Street, Orchard Road, Maraekakaho Road, Pākōwhai Road and Evenden Road. The reverse will also apply. 

The detours are expected to add up to 10 minutes to your journey.
