There has been a change to the start location for the SH1 paving works, previously communicated as being between Esmonde Road and Onewa Road. The closure will now begin from Northcote Road to Onewa Road.

The traffic bulletin is updated below:

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising road users of upcoming road surface reconstruction work on State Highway 1 (SH1) southbound between Northcote Road and Onewa Road.  

This work will take place over approximately 9 nights when traffic is lower (10pm to 5am) between 13 and 30 October 2025 (excluding Friday and Saturday nights).

While work is being carried out the following traffic management will be in place: 

• Sunday 12 October: southbound lane restrictions between Esmonde Road and Onewa Road. Esmonde Road on-ramp closed.
• Monday 13 to Thursday 30 October: full southbound closure between Northcote Road and Onewa Road. Northcote Road southbound on-ramp, Esmonde Road southbound off-ramp and on-ramp and Onewa Road southbound off-ramp will be closed. Detour via Northcote Road, Lake Road and Onewa Road.

Week 1: Monday 13 to Thursday 16 October 
Week 2: Sunday 19 October 
Week 3: Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 October 

Contingency week: Sunday 2 November to Monday 3 November 

Paving works are weather dependent and may change from advertised dates.
