A detour is now in place for road users after a serious crash forced the closure of State Highway 1 at Waikuku, in North Canterbury, this evening.

SH1/Main North Road is closed between Tulls Road and Gressons Road while emergency services are working at the crash scene.

Southbound traffic should turn right onto Tulls Road, continue onto Smarts Road, turn left onto Rangiora Woodend Road, left onto Gressons Road, then right back onto SH1. The reverse applies for northbound traffic.

9.45pm – Serious crash closes SH1 at Waikuku

State Highway 1 at Waikuku in North Canterbury is closed tonight after a serious crash.

The crash happened on SH1 near the intersection with Waikuku Beach Road.

Road users should follow the directions of emergency services at the site and allow extra time for travel.
