State Highway 6 between Haast (West Coast) and Makarora (Otago) has reopened after a closure due to a truck breakdown.

After the broken-down truck was towed, the road through the Gates of Haast is now clear.

Efforts are underway to clear a truck that has broken down and has forced the closure of State Highway 6 between Haast (West Coast) and Makarora (Otago).

The breakdown happened in the early hours of this morning and has blocked the Gates of Haast bridge.

Arrangements have been made to the tow the broken-down vehicle out and an update is expected later this morning.
