UPDATE: 4.30pm – SH69 now closed because of serious crash

UPDATE: 4.30pm
State Highway 69/Buller Road, just out of Reefton on the West Coast, is now fully closed following a serious crash this afternoon.
The highway closure is near the County Road and Hattie Street intersections. A detour is available via Hattie Street.
The next update on the road status may not be until this evening as police completes its work.
4pm – Traffic restrictions after SH69 Reefton crash
A temporary speed limit reduction is in place, and road users are having to stop on demand on State Highway 69, just out of Reefton on the West Coast, after a serious crash.
The crash happened on SH69/Buller Road, near the County Road intersection, and police say initial indications are that a car collided with a tree, then with another car. One person is reported to be injured.
Stop/go traffic management in place means that road users will need to stop when required so that others can be let through in the space available.
People are asked to travel with extra care on this route and to expect delays. An update will be provided as the road status changes.
