Southbound traffic is flowing again on State Highway 1/Russley Road near Christchurch International Airport after a median strip fire.

While the closure caused traffic congestion, it has eased since the fire was extinguished, and the highway is now fully cleared.

State Highway 1 is closed to southbound traffic near Christchurch International Airport because of a median strip fire.

The closure is near the Memorial Avenue Gateway Bridge and is causing significant traffic disruption and delays. People are urged to avoid the area. 

Emergency services are on site addressing the fire.
