UPDATE: 12pm – SH8 reopened after crash

State Highway 8/Tarras-Cromwell Road has reopened after a truck crash overnight that closed the road near the Lindis River Bridge.

People are asked to take care travelling on this route.

UPDATE: 8.30am – Efforts underway to shift truck blocking SH8

Contractors are working this morning to unload goods from a crashed truck that is blocking State Highway 8/Tarras-Cromwell Road.

Once that is done, the rolled truck will then be shifted so that the road can reopen.

The detour route for northbound traffic is turning right onto Ardgour Road, then right back onto SH8/Tarras-Cromwell Road at Tarras. The reverse applies for southbound traffic. The detour is suitable for heavy vehicles.

An update on the status of the road is expected later this morning.

8.10am – Detour available as SH8 remains closed after overnight crash

A detour is in place while a stretch of State Highway 8/Tarras-Cromwell Road remains closed this morning following a truck crash overnight.

SH8/Tarras-Cromwell Road is closed near Lindis River Bridge in Central Otago. Road users are advised to avoid the area or delay their journeys if possible.

The detour route for northbound traffic is turning right onto Ardgour Road, then right back onto SH8/Tarras-Cromwell Road at Tarras. The reverse applies for southbound traffic. The detour is suitable for heavy vehicles.
