UPDATE: Bus crash affecting State Highway 1, Hataitai (SH1 OPEN in both directions)

State Highway 1 is now open in both directions in Hataitai following a bus crash earlier today.
Some delays can be expected until queued traffic clears and congestion eases.
UPDATE 9:20 am:
State Highway 1 has reopened to northbound traffic between Taurima Street and Hamilton Road in Hataitai.
The highway remains CLOSED to southbound traffic. Southbound drivers should continue to follow the detour.

Update 9am:
State Highway 1 is now CLOSED in both directions in Hataitai. This is to allow the bus, involved in this morning’s crash, to be towed away.
State Highway 1 will remain closed to traffic between Taurima Street and Hamilton Road while this work is completed.
Drivers travelling through the area can detour via Taurima Street, Moxham Avenue, Kupe Street, and Hamilton Road.
Travel delays can be expected until this incident is fully resolved. Drivers must allow for extra travel time.

Update 8am:
The southbound closure has been extended. State Highway 1 is now closed between Taurima Street and Hamilton Road.
The route remains OPEN for northbound traffic.
7:05 am:
Drivers heading from Wellington city to Miramar can expect delays this morning following a bus crash on State Highway 1 in Hataitai.
The incident was reported shortly after six o’clock this morning. A bus has run off the road and onto a property near Kilbirnie Crescent
The highway is currently CLOSED to southbound traffic between Moxham Avenue and Hamilton Road.
A detour is available for southbound traffic via Moxham Avenue, Kupe Street, and Hamilton Road. State Highway 1 remains OPEN for northbound traffic.
Contractors and emergency services are at the scene.
Road users can expect ongoing delays through the area can be expected until the incident is resolved. Drivers, particularly those heading to Wellington airport and the Miramar peninsula, should allow extra time for their journeys.
