UPDATE: Crash closes State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill (SH2 open under stop/go)

UPDATE 6:20 pm:

State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill has reopened following a crash earlier this evening.

Stop/go traffic management is in place at the crash site. Ongoing delays on the route will continue until the incident is resolved, both road lanes are open, and queued traffic has cleared.

Drivers are asked to follow all instructions from emergency services and contractors, and to take extra care on the route – especially at the crash site.


5:30 pm:

State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill is closed between Kaitoke and Featherston following a crash late this afternoon.

A vehicle has rolled near the summit on the Featherston side of the hill. The incident was reported shortly before 5 pm this evening.

Drivers are asked to delay their travel and avoid the area until the incident is resolved. There is no estimated time for when the route will reopen.

Significant travel delays can be expected until the crash site is cleared and the highway is reopened. Traffic is already queued on the route.

Emergency services and contractors are attending the incident.

Updates will be provided as the situation changes. The highway’s status can also be checked online. Drivers are encouraged to check before travelling the route.
