Update 4:50 pm:

State Highway 53 is now open to traffic following this afternoon’s crash.

The highway was closed for approximately three and a half hours.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington  Transport Alliance thanks drivers for their patience and cooperation while emergency services and contractors attended this incident.

1.50pm:

State Highway 53 is currently closed to traffic near the intersection of No. 1 Line following a two-vehicle crash this afternoon.

The incident, involving a car and a truck, was reported shortly before 1 pm.

Emergency services are at the scene and the road is likely to remain closed while a crash investigation is completed.

Drivers are asked to follow all instructions from  emergency services and contractors. Road users should avoid the area and use an alternative route if travelling between Featherston and Martinborough.
